The New Regime

The appointment of H.E. Mr. Ghulam Muhammad and Al-Haj Khwaja Nazimuddin, as Governor-General and Prime Minister respectively will be warmly welcomed throughout the country. Mr. Ghulam Muhammad is a man of international reputation, having made a mark, as Finance Minister, for his circumspection as well as a rare understanding of men and matters. Al-Haj Khwaja Nazimuddin has at his back experience as the Prime Minister of a difficult province like the undivided Bengal which should stand him in good stead in his present position. Above all both are devoted heart and soul to the service and advancement of Pakistan. No better selection could under the circumstances be made and the Central Cabinet must be congratulated on the choice of the right men for the right places. The new team will have the fullest support and best wishes of the nation in the onerous responsibilities they have been called up on to shoulder. We have no doubt the new leadership will inspire the country with a new vision and a new zeal and will take Pakistan to greater and greater heights of solidarity, prosperity and international esteem. Indo-Pakistan relationship will no doubt demand their foremost attention and it is to be fervently hoped that they may succeed in solving the many difficult problems that are still outstanding between the two countries, so that both may open a new chapter in their mutual dealing and settle down to the avocations of peace instead of the nightmare of war threat that is constantly weighing down normal life on both sides. India’s generous reactions in the hour of this country’s greatest national tragedy and the current of good-will it released there has created a much favourable atmosphere for attempting quite a new approach to the settlement of Kashmir and other problems. The new regime thus assumes office under more propitious circumstances and with God’s grace, let us hope, it may bring greater strength and glory to Pakistan.
