The Elijah Muhammad Stunt
The Woking Muslim Mission,
WOKING (Surrey), England.
14-3-1959.
The Imam, the Shah Jehan Mosque, Woking, England, has issued the following statement to the Press:
In the February 1959 issue of the “Islamic Review” we published a letter from a certain Negro leader of Chicago, (U. S. A.) Mr. Elijah Muhammad; under the impression that he was a bona-fide worker in the cause of Islam. We have since received from the Islamic Centre, Washington the true story of this man, and some of his literature, which shows that what he is preaching in the name of Islim is the most fantastic, to say the least – indeed a caricature of Islam. We are issuing the true facts about this man in the April issue of “The Islamic”. In the meantime, I issue this statement to say that this Mission has nothing to do with Mr. Elijah Muhammad, his views or his activities.
