A MESSAGE OF GOOD-WILL AND BROTHERHOOD

Immediately after his conviction Maulvi Mohammad Yaqub Khan was interviewed by his counsel through whom he has sent the following message: —

“Suffering in a righteous cause does not fall to the lot of many. I believe in the value of suffering in the cause of nation-building.

A nation that does not know how to suffer, does not know how to live.

I take my conviction with Muslim-like cheerfulness. My only worry is on account of the Anjuman whom I have been the cause of involving in a game that must cause them a good bit of money—money that could be ill-spared from the pressing calls on the Anjuman in the cause of Isha`at-i-Islam. I wish the friends, supporters and admirers of the Light could see to it that the Anjuman is put not to a penny’s expense on this account. And secondly, let me repeat that the Light has ever stood for the universal brotherhood of man, irrespective of caste, creed or colour. There was not an iota of hatred in my heart for Hindus when I wrote the articles nor now that I have been convicted for them. Clean, manly struggle for self-preservation is the legitimate right of all and may co-exist with good-will for all under the same bosom”.
